He is Risen!
A fourth grade Sunday school class filled up on Easter Sunday. The girls were dressed in their prettiest dresses and the boys had ties and sport coats. The teacher wanted her students to know that there was more to Easter than new clothes and Easter baskets. She read to them the Easter Story and hoped they realized that Jesus was risen.
She gave each of them a plastic Easter egg and told them to go out around the church and find something that reminded them of life. They all went out including Danny, a little boy with Down Syndrome. Danny was filled with love and he was a joy to have in the room. Some of the students made fun of him but Danny thought everyone was “his buddy”.
The students soon came back to the classroom with their eggs. One student had put a ladybug in their egg. In another egg was an ant. Some eggs had flowers and some had grass. One egg had nothing in it. Everyone knew whose egg it was. The teacher asked Danny why he had not put anything in his egg. Danny’s face broke into a huge grin as he responded, “Because the tomb was empty.”
Danny got it! He understood the truth of Easter. The empty tomb is the ultimate sign of life and a miracle like none other. Jesus Christ had risen from the dead. The women who came to the tomb that morning knew Jesus was dead. Some of them had witnessed his death. When they came to anoint His body, the tomb was empty. Jesus had risen from the dead.
Jesus who was dead is now alive! Just as Jesus was restored to life, we can also be restored to life in His name. Jesus can breathe new life into your life too. On this day after Easter, turn to Jesus! Jesus is waiting for you. Eternal Life can be yours because Jesus has risen from the grave!
On this Easter Monday – accept Jesus with your heart and your life!
Prayer – Father thank you for sending Jesus to die for our sins. Because Jesus died and rose again, we can have eternal life! Amen.
Luke 24:6 – He is not here: He has risen!
