Gifts of Real Estate
When are the circumstances right to donate real estate and other appreciated properties to Methodist causes? Three circumstances come to mind:
-
When the property has significant long-term appreciation, and the owner would recognize a sizeable capital gain. You can reduce your tax burden.
-
When the real estate property can be easily liquidated with minimum chances for incurring additional expenses. You can benefit from savings that come from relief of the maintenance of your property.
-
When the real estate can allow you to achieve significant charitable and social goals to benefit others. You can help those Methodist families and individuals in need.
While we cannot provide financial or legal advice, we are always willing to discuss the advantages of real estate donations. Prospective donors will have significant flexibility while assuring the gifts obtained support their wishes.
Who should donate?
Those individuals who wish to help the Methodist churches and communities in which they live.
Those donors make a positive difference in the lives of others who may be less fortunate. Most importantly, the real estate donation helps to benefit the many missionary causes that we as Methodists support within our communities.
Properties that Support Methodists’ Missions:
The gifts may be a principal residence, secondary home, a farm, commercial building, undeveloped land or security assets. Before accepting a gift of real estate, we will consider whether or not the property adheres to our gift policies.
