His Understanding Has No Limit
My oldest son had a rescue dog named Dakota who lived sixteen and a half years. Now that’s a long time for a dog, but for my son, it wasn’t long enough. Dakota had been his companion since she was an 8-week old puppy. He bought insurance for her and thank goodness he did because he took her to the vet often. She stayed with us frequently and we could see her slowing down. My son was determined not to have her put down. He decided he would take care of her as long as she lived. Recently, he took her to the vet and the vet convinced him it was time. Dakota left a hole in my son’s life. He called to tell me, saying he was glad God would take care of her.
This caused me to think. God is aware of all the events in our lives. He compassionately sees into our souls and knows how they affect us. He understands that “little things” can feel like “big things” depending on our age, our past wounds, or which roads we have traveled.
Mark 12:43-44 tells about the widow’s gift. She dropped two coins into a temple collection box. Jesus described what it meant for her when he said, “The poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others… She put all she had to live on.” Jesus recognized that what others saw as a tiny donation was a sacrifice for her. Jesus sees our lives the same way.
Jesus has limitless understanding and when we call out to Him, we know He will look compassionately on us. It may be the loss of a dog who has been your companion for a long time. It may be loss of a loved one or the reality that we cannot give as we would like. Jesus’ limitless understanding is ours to behold. May you be comforted today in the fact that Jesus has infinite knowledge of your life.
Prayer – Father, thank you for knowing me completely and still loving me. When life pulls me down, help me to feel Your comfort. Amen.
