Will It Ever End?
I watch the news a lot these days. I think back on the number of weeks we were in lockdown and the mere fact that it’s not over yet. I write devotions every week, and I am hopeful that they bring you hope! The thing that I hear the most is “Will it ever end?” God’s Word is where each of us needs to be. We need to be seeking God’s direction and basing our hope on the God who created the heavens and the earth.
There was another man in the Bible who faced disappointments and hardship. His name was David, and he had to flee from the enemies who wanted to kill him. His response was not to run from God but to praise him. Psalm 27:3 says, “Though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.” The Psalm says David still had doubts. His cry, “Be merciful to me and answer me” (v. 7) sounds like you and I today, asking, “When will it ever end?” David pleaded with God – “Do not hide your face from me” and “Do not reject me or forsake me.” (v. 9)
The hope comes from this statement in verse 13 – “I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” David then said, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (v. 14)
We won’t find fast answers to our questions but we will always find answers if we wait on the Lord! God, who created us, can always be trusted. “Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord!”
Prayer: Father, melt my heart along with my fears. I seek answers “in the land of the living” and know you, Lord, will answer my prayers.
Psalm 27:7 – “Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.”
