Have You Ever Driven a Tractor?
Back when I was a boy, farmers plowed corn to get rid of the weeds. Today, they spray for weeds. My dad had a tractor and told me if I would plow corn for our neighbors, I could have half of what they paid. He kept half to operate the tractor and pay for fuel. I would plow from sun-up to sun-down. Back then, if the tractor veered to the left or right, you would wipe out corn until you got back in the row. I had to stay wide awake, and by the end of the day, I was worn out. The tractor had no covering so I sat in the sun all day. There was no air-conditioning and, of course, no radio for music. Today farmers have it a little different. They have autosteer that guides the tractor by GPS. Tractors are air-conditioned and comfortable. Autosteer is an amazing tool to keep the tractor moving straight ahead.
II Kings 22:1 tells the story of Josiah. He was crowned king when he was only eight years old. When Josiah was in his mid-20s, Hilkiah the High Priest found the “Book of Law.” He read it to the young king, who tore his robes in sorrow because of his ancestors’ disobedience to God. Josiah set out to do “what was right in the eyes of the Lord.” (v. 2)
The book became an “autosteer” for the people. It kept them from turning to the right or the left. God’s instructions were and are there to keep us straight. When we allow Scripture to guide us day by day, our lives will stay in line with God and His will. The Bible is an amazing tool that, when followed, will keep us moving straight ahead. Today, we need to read God’s Word and stay on track. Put your “tractor” on autosteer by reading God’s instructions every day!
Prayer – Father, keep us on track everyday by reading and following Your word!
II Kings 22:2 – “He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, not turning aside to the right or the left.”
