Daily Bread
Thanksgiving is over, and I hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and plenty to eat.
My wife and I shop at Costco fairly often. Frequently, the “sample carts” are out, but it’s kind of fun to walk around and try everything. There may be cheese and crackers, little fajita wraps, crab dip and crackers, and the list goes on and on. If there are enough carts out, we don’t have to stop and get lunch or supper somewhere. We would have already eaten!
At home, we keep a running list of what we need. When we go shopping, we always remember to take the list or we would forget what we really need. When Jesus taught us to pray for our daily bread, he used an unusual Greek word, “epiousios.” This word only appears one time in scripture and it basically means “give us this day ‘our grocery list.’”
God cares about all of our needs. God wants to be the source of everything, from our most mundane needs to the great blessings we enjoy. He wants us to ask Him for the things we need, and then trust Him to provide.
Matthew 6:11: “Give us this day our daily bread.
