The Maker of the Universe
I love to study what we know about our universe and realize there are millions of other universes out there that we can’t see and know nothing about. Yet, we know they’re there. Our God, who created the sun and the moon, has created far more than we can imagine. We are just now seeing the end of our universe and realizing that beyond the gravitational pull of our sun, there is another universe and another and another…
When the Eagle landed on the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility, Neil Armstrong said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” He was the first human to walk on the moon but not the last. Gene Cernan was commander on the last Apollo mission, and he said, “There I was, and there you are, the earth, dynamic and overwhelming… it was just too beautiful to happen by accident.”
I felt the same way the first time I helped my father birth a baby calf. To see a calf take its first breath and to first stand up for nourishment from its mother is such a miracle! I was privileged to be with Carolyn when both of our sons were born. It’s a miracle to see 10 fingers and 10 toes and watch them take their first breath. The God who made the universe made every one of us, and that’s a miracle.
The prophet Jeremiah considered the immensity of God as creator of the earth and beyond. Jeremiah 31:33-34 says that God offered His people love, forgiveness and hope. Jeremiah affirms God’s enormity as He who “appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night.” (v. 35) Verses 36-37 remind us that our creator and Lord Almighty will reign above us all as He works to redeem all His people.
We will never be able to explore all that God has created. We may never be able to understand the miracle called birth, but we can surely be amazed at all that God has created. We may never be able to get into a spaceship and travel through this universe, or any of the other universes that God has created, but we can know the creator of the moon, the earth and everything else.
Prayer: Creator of all, thanks for allowing us to know you and allowing us to live in Your creation. We trust you today and forever! Amen.
Jeremiah 31:33 – “I will be their God and they will be my people.”
