How can we help?
We’ve been working on Stewardship Resources, trying to be ready to help churches with their Stewardship Programs. Many churches we’re seeing have checking accounts and different funds, not drawing any interest or if interest bearing, they’re not drawing very much. What is good stewardship?
Stewardship is having a Fall Campaign to ask people to pledge, but Stewardship is also using wisely what God has given us. If we had $100,000 in the bank drawing 0.5%, we would be adding $500 per year. If we took that same $100,000 and invested it in our Virginia United Methodist Development Company at 3.4%, we would add $3400 per year. The difference is astounding and the difference is what I would call good stewardship.
We have Certificates that range from six months up to 60 months. These Certificates are for churches and/or church members. When church members are able to get a better return on their money, they will have more to give to the church and all its Missions. This is called “good” stewardship!
The Foundation and Development Company are two separate entities. The Foundation is for Endowments and local churches. DevCo is our Lending Institution and we loan to churches; however, churches and individuals and other affiliated entities can invest here. We have four funds that will fit Endowment Funds and churches who simply want a better return for their cash on hand. The Funds are Balanced Fund, Balanced Plus fund, Stock Fund and Bond Fund. In 2017, the return on these funds was amazing. Again it is good stewardship to put your money where it draws the most dividends. The dividends can be used for additional work in the Kingdom. Endowment Funds can be set up so only the interest can be used, and thus, an Endowment Fund will produce “good works” forever.
Stewardship is more than raising money each week. Stewardship is wisely using what God has given us. If your church has some extra funds that they would like to be drawing more interest or would like to start an Endowment Fund for the future, please contact us and we’ll come to you.
