Believe in the Light
This has been a strange week. We started out with temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s. On Tuesday, there were thunderstorms and hail, and Wednesday brought frost warnings. This spring has been filled with all kinds of weather. Weather is not predictable and we need to expect all kinds. When traveling in this weather, we need to trust our headlights when it is storming or foggy.
Jesus told of a storm on the horizon. He told His followers of His death in John 12:31-33 and told them to stay faithful and serve (vs. 26). Jesus told them it would be dark and hard to see. Jesus told them to believe and trust the Light (vs. 36). This was the only way they could keep going forward!
The Greek word for light is used five times in John 12:35-36. Jesus refers to himself as “light” in John 8:12: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Those who believe in Jesus will become children of light. They become His disciples and a part of the light force in the world (Matthew 5:14).
We have and will face dark times. Today, the world is filled with things we do not understand but the Holy Spirit will be our guide to light the way. We will all face dark times when it’s almost impossible to see the way ahead. When we believe in the Light, we can press on. Jesus’ Spirit will be our guide and our “light”.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for being the light in my darkness. Thank you for letting us become children of your light. Help us to trust and keep going! Amen.
John 12:36 – Believe in the light….so that you may become children of light.
