Another Hand in My Pocket
When I graduated from High School, the class trip was to New York to the World’s Fair. We went to the Empire State Building, and while on the top, I put my hand in my back pocket to make sure my wallet was safe. To my surprise, there was another hand in my pocket. We had been told about pick pockets and sure enough I had one by the hand. He tried to get away but I was with about a dozen of my friends and we easily held him down until the police got there. The police cuffed this man and took him away. His day was ruined but I had my wallet.
There are all kinds of warnings in this world and we often don’t like to heed them because we think they will keep us from enjoying life. I don’t like to carry my wallet in a front pocket or button, a button on a rear pocket, but these warnings often save us from losing our wallets.
Jesus gave us a clear warning while sending His disciples to proclaim God’s coming kingdom (Matthew 10:7). He said, “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. (Vs. 32-33)
We have a choice in life. We can live according to God’s ways or we can be rejected. In love, God provided a Savior and a plan for us to be in His presence for eternity. If we turn away from God and choose to reject His message of salvation and the real life He offers for both now and forever, we lose out on the opportunity to be with Him. May each of us trust Jesus and choose to live with and for Jesus who loves and made us. Trust Jesus and acknowledge Jesus before others!
Prayer – Heavenly Father, thank you for providing salvation through Jesus. And thank You for sending warnings to remind us of the importance of putting my faith in Jesus. Amen.
Matthew 10:33 – Whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
