The Days of Our Lives
Recently it was reported that over 500,000 lives have been lost in the US during the pandemic. Many have lost loved ones during this time. This virus comes in and steals your breath. More people have died because of this pandemic than were lost in World War I and II and the Korean War. It’s hard for us to imagine this much loss, but it’s the right time to understand that God has taken care of death and dying and that one day we will be with our loved ones. Jesus has gone ahead of us and tells us He has prepared a place – that where He is, we, too, can be.
When our loved ones were born, God was there breathing breath into their lungs. (Isaiah 42:4) God was intimately involved in every detail of each of those who lost their lives to this terrible disease. Psalm 139:13-14 says that God designed and knit our loved ones together in the womb. When loved ones died from COVID, God’s spirit was there, holding them in love and carrying them to be with Him. Even though relatives were not allowed to be with them when they were sick, God was there, and God had their hands. (Psalm 139:7-10)
The same is true for all of God’s children. Every moment of our brief life here on earth is known by God. (vv. 1-4) Each one of us is precious to God. With each day that we have remaining on this earth, let us praise God and anticipate the life that lies ahead for us. Let us say with enthusiasm, “everything that has breath praise the Lord”! (150:6)
Prayer: Loving God, thank You for creating me and giving me breath – and for giving me hope. In sorrow and losses of life, help me to cling to You. Amen!
Psalm 139:16 – “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
