Above the Water
On my walk this morning, I saw a strange phenomenon. There is a small pond close to my house, and the cool morning air was causing a layer of mist above the water. The water was warm, and the air was cold. I walk several laps around this pond, and on my last lap the sun had broken through and the mist disappeared.
This scene comforted me because I had just read Isaiah 44:22, and it all made sense. “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.” Have you ever wondered if God would forgive you if you repeat the same sin? My morning walk told me that the answer was “yes.”
God showed grace to the Israelites when they struggled with the problem of idol worship. God told them to stop chasing false gods. God also invited them back to Himself, saying, “I have made you, you are my servant…. I will not forget you.” (v. 21)
God’s grace is like the sun on the mist on the water this morning. When the sun hits the mist – it disappears. Likewise when God’s grace hits sin, it disappears. Grace is the only thing that can dissolve our sin and heal us from it. I’m thankful that His grace is endless and wonderfully divine like God is. Grace is available whenever we need it.
Prayer – Dear God, thank you for your gracious presence in my life. I don’t want to live in constant sin. Help me to feel the freedom that comes when I confess my sin and you erase it like the morning mist. Amen.
