Let Me Tell You
Several years ago, a friend told me about a great buffet in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He said if you go to Lancaster, you have to go to this buffet. When Carolyn and I went to Lancaster, we indeed looked up this buffet. It was out in the country, and I mean way out in the country. We drove and drove until we finally arrived. Now let me tell you! It was a great buffet and the drive was worth it. When a friend recommends something, it is a powerful endorsement.
Psalm 66:1 says God invites us to share our gratitude and joy not only to Him but also to those around us. The Psalmist shared the forgiveness God granted him when he turned from his sins. (vs. 18-20) Psalm 66: 10-12 tells how God orchestrated certain things that happened to His people. God had done these things to get the people’s attention. Because of God’s intervention, they stopped their destructive behavior. The Psalmist invites “all the earth” (vs. 1) and “all peoples” (vs. 8) to sing God’s praises. The Psalmist is calling the whole world to join Him. God’s plan all along has been for His people to “call” all people to Him.
Last summer Carolyn and I went to Gatlinburg. While there, we rode a sky lift up a mountain. On top of the mountain, we met a couple who told us about the ribs at Cheddars. When Carolyn and I thought about supper we thought about those ribs at Cheddars, so that is where we went for supper. This was another powerful endorsement.
These endorsements tell us that what we say to our neighbors and friends is very important. God has done amazing works in the course of history, such as parting the Red Sea. He sent His only son to come to this earth and die for each of us. God has done and is doing amazing work in and through each of us. When we share with others our personal experiences of God’s work in our lives, we are sharing far more than what restaurant we should try. When we share our faith with others, we are acknowledging God’s goodness and encouraging others along the journey of life!
