Prayer Shawls

Recently, my mother had to undergo major surgery. As anyone could imagine, she was very anxious. While thinking of ways to comfort my mother, I remembered that we had received a generous gift of prayer shawls from Sunset Drive United Methodist Church. I picked a prayer shawl for my mother and took it to her the day of her surgery. In the next week, I saw how the prayer shawl brought my mother comfort and healing during her stay in the hospital.

While visiting my mother one afternoon, I met one of the nurses that my mother had become so fond of. Carol and my mother had become fast friends. She told me how much she admired my mother’s prayer shawl and asked if we could have some made for other patients. When I told Carol that we have some already made and we would love nothing more than to donate them, she was overjoyed! Bo Bowden and I delivered the prayer shawls to Carol the next week. She and the other nurses on the floor were all so grateful for the gracious gift from Sunset Drive UMC. Carol stated that words cannot express the incredible blessings each handmade shawl would bring to those receiving. She sincerely thanked us and Sunset Drive UMC for adding to St. Mary’s Hugs from Jesus Ministry.
