We’re Never Out of God’s Reach
When I pastored in Colonial Heights, I had a member who bought a new airplane and went to the Amelia Airport to pick it up. When he took off, he clipped the top of a tree and came crashing down. The plane caught on fire and both he and is his wife were burned. He was in MCV Intensive Care and was critical. On a Sunday morning, I asked the congregation to come to the altar and pray for this man. When I arrived that afternoon at MCV, the nurse told me that at 11:55 something happened. She said he was dying and at 11:55 am, life flowed back into this man. It was exactly 11:55 am that the church gathered at the altar and prayed. The man recovered and had a wonderful party for those who cared for him.
My friend’s persevering faith reminds me of the woman in Luke 8. She was weary from 12 years of suffering and isolation. She reached out to Jesus and touched the hem of His robe. Her healing followed her act of faith. No matter how impossible her situation seemed, she was healed. (vs 43-44)
We may experience pain that seems endless and situations that seem hopeless and waiting that seems like forever. We may have the odds stacked against us and we may not experience the healing that we long for. But even then, Jesus invites us to keep reaching for Him, to trust Him, and never give up hope. Healing can take many forms. Sometimes it’s immediate, sometimes it’s peace and comfort, and sometimes it’s eternity. Jesus wants us to know that He is always able, always trustworthy and always within reach.
Prayer – Jesus, thank you for reminding us that you’re always within reach even when we have little hope. We need to always be reminded that you’re always there even when our healing may be to have an eternal place with you in heaven. Amen.
Luke 8:48 – Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
