A New Day
Over the holidays, I’ve seen my grandchildren. We’ve seen them during the pandemic but it was always from a distance or outside. They have now had their vaccines. Saturday was the first time we have had them in our home.
Silas, our grandson is now eight. He’s the one with the “liver disease”, as he calls it. The actual name is Allegial Syndrome. Because of this, we have been very, very careful. Silas has been going to school virtually and has been around no one except his sisters, Mom and Dad. His Gma and I have been missing them and it was wonderful to play games, feed them and hear “I Love You” once again.
I used to read to Silas all the time, and he came in Saturday and told me he would read to me. In the 20 plus months COVID has separated us, Silas has become a very proficient reader. He read six booklets to me before he quit. He reads at a good pace and knows almost all the words. The ones he doesn’t know he “sounded” out and got right. I’m a little prejudice but he’s one sharp cookie.
It’s a New Year and I am reminded of what Jeremiah said in 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” The pandemic has separated us but God has a plan for us. God has given us a New Year and new days. God has given Silas a brilliant mind and the ability to survive and thrive with Allegial Syndrome. May you have the ability to survive and thrive in this new year. Our scripture today says the Lord has plans for us to give us a future and hope.
Prayer – Father we have been praying for Silas all his life. We thank you for giving each of us a future and a hope. May this New Year be filled with “your plans”. Amen.
Lamentations 3:22 – The unfailing love of the Lord never ends!
