Good and Faithful Servant
“Well done good and faithful Servant” appears 69 times in scripture. Matthew 25:21 says, “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’”
Rev. Dan Garrett passed away this week from pancreatic cancer. Facebook has been filled with praises for this great man of God. Dan was a Navy Lieutenant, Vietnam veteran, United Methodist Minister, educator and theologian and friend to us all. I don’t think I have ever seen so many tributes to anyone as I have seen to Dan. He was a colleague and friend to so many of us.
Ecclesiastes 1:1 says there’s a “time to weep and a time to laugh…a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.” This week the moon has been full and beautiful. The moon is waxing and waning and this is another sign that nothing remains the same. God oversees the course of events and “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” (Vs. 11)
Dan Garrett, we love you and are thankful for your great witness. We appreciate the many hours, days and years you gave to your calling to follow and serve Jesus. Life can be unpredictable and sometimes filled with painful separations, but we can take heart that everything takes place under God’s gaze. We can enjoy life and treasure the moments – the good and the bad – for our loving God is with us.
Prayer: Thank You, loving Father, for watching over all the seasons of our lives. Help us to trust You and enjoy the life You’ve given us. Amen.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 – God has made everything beautiful in its time.
