My Grandfather
My grandfather was a wonderful man. He loved his children and grandchildren and worked hard! He could tell you how to butcher a hog, or make hay, or raise a garden, but he had trouble with outer space. I remember him telling me that man did not land on the moon. He said the spaceship landed in the desert, and this was the government’s way of spending a lot of money. My grandfather, as smart as he was, did not understand that the sun, moon and planets circle the sun. He would say that God created the earth, but he had trouble understanding that God created far more than the earth.
The Psalmist David said, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” (Psalm 8:3-4) David’s question deals with my grandfather. My grandfather needed to know God created the heaven and earth and everything else that existed or ever will exist. David seemed to understand how big God is and how big His creation is.
The Apostle John said God’s shimmering glory will provide all the light that is needed. Revelation 21:23-25 says, “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp… There will be no night there.”
What an amazing thought! We can experience God’s heavenly light now, simply by seeking Christ, the Light of the World. I pray my grandfather now understands God and His creation. I’m sure my grandfather is in heaven with God, soaking up the light of His glory. We all need to look up more often! When we look up, we will see God and understand His glory.
Prayer: God, I praise You for Your marvelous light! Thank you for sending us Jesus so we can experience Your light until we can experience Your glory! Amen.
