Have You Heard God Calling?
Have you ever wondered why you were put on this earth? Have you ever thought about what God’s purpose is for you? Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine. I just read about a new kind of light bulb that will stay bright for six hours after the power goes off. Charles Wesley wrote over 6,000 hymns. What have you done?
I thought God had created me to be a doctor. I studied hard but did not get into medical school. It was during the time of Vietnam. Thousands were applying to medical school to get deferments. I listened long and hard, and I heard God saying, “I want you to go to divinity school.” My career completely changed, but it was God’s call for my life. I wonder how many of us listen to what God is calling them to do.
Genesis 4 tells us that Eve “became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.” After holding Cain for the first time, Eve announced, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.” God brought forth Cain and later God brought forth Jesus. (John 3:16) What a legacy?!
We may be called to get married and have a child that will lead the world. We may be called by God to come up with a cure for cancer. Our calling may be something totally unexpected. I think the issue is – “Will we listen to God?” Your calling may be something so exciting that it will change the world. Your calling may be laid back and your calling may not come to fruition until after your death. God has a plan for all of us. Let’s listen for His call!
Genesis 4:1 – Eve said, “With the help of the Lord, I brought forth a man.”
