Do You Try to Impress Others?

I see people all the time trying to be different from how they really are. I see people wearing black because it covers up weight. I see guys wearing shirttails untucked – not sure what that means. I see gals wearing high heels that must hurt their feet, but they insist it makes them feel dressed up. We comb our hair to cover bald spots or pay big prices to have our hair cut so we can look different. And yet, our physical appearance doesn’t define who we are. It’s our heart that matters!
If we obsess over appearances while looking for loopholes in God’s clear commands, we’re violating the spirit of His law. If we concentrate on helping others and being concerned about others, we will have less time worrying about how we look. Jesus said that “out of the heart come evil thoughts – murder, adultery, sexual immorality,” and the like. (Matthew 15:19)
Only God, through the righteousness of His Son Jesus, can give us a clean heart.
Matthew 15:19-20 – “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality. These are what makes a person unclean.”
