Whom shall I send?
What are churches looking for in their pastor? Some want a preacher with a clear delivery, while others want a good personality. Some want a person with a sound education and a thorough knowledge of the Bible. Others want someone who will visit the sick and lonely. All want someone who will hold the attention of men, women and children.
All these gifts are important, but the most important one is the “call” to serve God’s people. No theological seminary can confer it, it must be given to the person by God.
God has His called ones in every age: There would have been no Reformation in Germany without Martin Luther; there would have been none in Switzerland without Calvin; there would have been none in Scotland without Knox; there would have been no evangelistic revival in Britain without Wesley, and there would have been none in America without Jonathan Edwards, Dwight Moody, Billy Graham and a host of others. Two-thirds of the New Testament were written by Paul, a man who persecuted Christians until God came into his life.
What is God calling you to do? It may be to serve as a pastor. It might be to be a banker or to work with social services, but whatever – God is calling you to do something. Whatever your calling – God wants you to do it well!
