Farsightedness and nearsightedness are both defects in human eyesight. Physicians specializing in the treatment of eyes give us glasses to help correct both defects. Oh, how we wish spiritual farsightedness and nearsightedness could be treated as easily! The one who looks forever into the future may not see his nearest duty, and the person who sees only the daily routine around him seldom advances toward larger things.
To see life steadily and to see it whole, we need the Great Physician. He alone can answer the prayer of the Psalmist: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
