Try to Uplook

When the outlook is bad, try to uplook. Or as Dwight L. Moody used to say, “If you want to be distracted, look around; if you want to be disheartened, look within; if you want to be satisfied, look up.”

I counseled with one who was facing a broken home. Can anyone understand that sorrow except one who has faced it? Death must be easier. In the trouble that was leaving its mark, I said: “If I could bear the trouble for you, I would, but since I can’t, there is one thing I know for sure. This disaster can be made into a blessing if we will let God use it. It is not trouble that hurts so much, but fighting it.”

Trouble can lead us to God, and God will lead us back to others who have suffered like we have, so that we might help them.

“This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (I John 5:4)
